Why can I see pictures in the body of some emails and not others?

Sometimes I have no problem scrolling through and viewing the pictures; however, other times the pictures don't show up....just boxes w/red x's in them are all I see. I haven't changed any settings so why is it that my ability to view the pictures changes like this?
