Not exactly a Abraham Lincoln..... hockey?

A cherry picker refers to a player who does not play defense while the opposing team is in their zone. They will usually sit on the opposing team's blue line and wait for a break away, they are the usual show boats on the team. The term you are looking for is a grinder, the man who sits in front of the net looking for rebounds or the loose puck for the easy/"garbage" goal. An example in the NHL would be star players such as Ilya Kovalchuk on the New Jersey Devils, he is known for is ability to score but has no sense of defensive play
