Help with kitchen interior design?!?

I am soon to be getting an apartment and I need some help with the kitchen colors! We can paint the walls however we want, but the counter tops and cupboards can't be touched. The cupboards are like a light oak color and the counter tops are a light off-white. We havn't bought tables & chairs yet (the dining portion is connected) because we want it all to look good together. We like warm colors, but we want it to be fun too. We have a really cool 3 in 1 toaster oven/griddle/coffee maker that is a bright cherry red which we want incorporated into the design. However, we also don't want TOO much red because of it's effect on the brain, making you want to eat more. Ideas please! Links to pictures would be fabulous too! Thanks!
